What a year!
Thank you to all the paid FET subscribers for supporting Australia’s newest think tank. I hope I have met my ambition of elevating the quality of economic conversations in 2024.
What’s the status of FET today?
Paid subscribers are now about 200 — special thanks to you all.
Total subscribers are around 5,800 and growing steadily. Any help to grow FET by sharing articles on your preferred social media, or by emailing your mates, is very much appreciated.
You can even give a gift subscription.
Let’s grow this together.
Right now FET won’t pay all the bills. But it is an essential and growing part of the mix of ways I’m trying to make an intellectual contribution outside of academia.
At the end of 2023, I decided that I would give myself two years to see what I could make of turning FET into a new one-man think-tank as a means of intellectual contribution.
I’m halfway through that journey now, and happy with what I have achieved and the direction things are heading.
What have I contributed to the conversation in 2024?
48 FET articles (majority free)
20 FET podcasts (and many more as a podcast guest)
Two audiobooks (for paid FET subscribers on the books page)
Dozens of media appearances and presentations (including Q+A)
In the mix has also been my contract work for Prosper Australia, which resulted in two reports being released this year.
Other events have been a trip to Canada in February to present on housing economics at UBC and a recent trip to Saudi Arabia to teach economics to the Executive MBA students at MBSC.
I’m happy with that.
The big new project for 2025 is to create and run in-person professional development workshops for public servants, planners, and associated professions, focussing on the economics of property markets. Stay tuned for news on that project, or reach out if that would be of interest to you or your organisation.
Once again, thank you for all your continued support. I hope you got some value from FET this year. If you need a dose of FET over the holiday period, try the top ten most popular articles of 2024 that I’ve listed below.
See you next year!
