My mother was widowed when we children were in high school and she was a young woman. She had to BORROW to pay disgusting and onerous death duties as it was known then in the 1960’s. We ran a mixed sheep and wheat farm. These Death Duties were later axed because of the distress it caused but not before it destroyed many people.

It was absolutely soul destroying for us all and those others it effected……and it happened to many in our neighbourhood over the years AND I saw the same distress!

Not inly do you have to deal with grief but then the financial stress is added.

She succeeded in the end but only because she was strong and capable. Many didn’t fare as well.

How bloody dare they!

Just STOP spending other people’s money. The greed is insatiable

My Mum would have been in the gutter with lots of kids if I had not avoided thousands in death duties as soon as I was told Dad had cancer. Treasuries hate families - and wonder why they end up with fewer productive citizens.
