Enjoyed your article and will likely follow you closely going forward.

One criticism is that you speak of COVID being over for all Australia, ignoring the fact that sadly WA is lagging and once again earning our Wait Awhile reputation. Very recent easing of NSW and Vic restrictions is reason for optimism, but I'm not convinced we'll see WA follow soon enough and completely enough. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading Ryan. You make a very fair point. In fact, I think China shows how severely things can drag out once the crowd backs themselves into a corner. I guess another way for me to make the case is that the crowd behaviour element is over everywhere in Australia. The only thing left is the face-saving of those public figures who went with the crowd. That means that they have to appear to be doing a "calculated withdrawal", which again justifies their previous actions. Does that make sense?

It does. A staged (both meanings of the word there), face-saving, withdrawal. If recent rumours for WA's removal of facemask mandates turn out to be true then that's further reasons for optimism. Still not confident for the no-jab-no-job restrictions being dropped, either by gov or large companies any time soon. The unjustified removal of one's ability to earn a living is the restriction that really hurts (and punishes, more to the point).
